Entering the modpack scene

My experience exploring features and bundling a pack for better gameplay.
Curating the Cobblemon experience
While considering what games to host on my newly assembled game server box, I found myself somewhat unintentionally stumbling into the world of mods, data- and resource packs. After going back and forth for a while, I decided on installing dedicated servers for Cobblemon, Terraria and Valheim, and initially my idea was to just keep things simple. However, as I began envisioning what a "good" Cobblemon experience in particular would look like in practice, ideas started flooding in left and right. What started out as a single "land claiming would probably be a good idea" whim, developed into a fully blown feature creep venture.
I ended up doing a lot of research in the following weeks, trying to better understand the mod scene in general and learning how to set things up in a meaningful way. This led me to explore a lot of different mods, before I would eventually settle on the ones I felt were most aligned with the vision I had in mind. As such, I ended up choosing mods not solely based on their interest or "wow" factor, but also based on how they would fit the server identity.
As part of this process, I would learn about the relationship between client and server, dependencies and mod configurations. I would also dive into permission systems, rank differentiation and associated perk logic.
I have to say I'm quite happy with how the modpack turned out in the end. If you want to explore what's inside, or just try it for yourself, head over to the Downloads page and grab the client-side version of kheembo's Cobblemon Plus. Note that you'll also need to install the Modrinth app in order to run it.
